Blurred vision

Alhamdulillah. Allah masih sudi melimpahkan nikmatNya yang tak terkira ke atas hamba yang serba lemah ini.
Jom update blog! *sambil pakai cermin mata hitam kerana sedikit silau selepas surgery*
Alhamdulillah. Baru-baru ni, saya dan adik telah selamat me-lasik matanya.
The surgery was done by an opthalmic surgeon yang berpengalaman (need not to worry) :)
LASIK is stands for Laser-Assisted In-situ Keratomileusis
It is usually pain-free. *Sekali lagi, jangan risau* :)
Costnya pula, depends kepada thickness of your cornea and other complications.
Basically around RM3k (direct procedure) to RM6k.
Disebabkan ada beberapa rakan yang bertanya-tanya tentang prosesnya, so saya dengan pendek rendah diri rasa macam best bertuah nak share experience yang tak seberapa ni.

1. Screening
1st of all before nak memulakan hajat ingin meLASIK mata ni, kita kena make an appointment to screen for the suitability to be a LASIK candidate. The screening process was done by the optometrist.
Masa ni dia akan check degree of kerabunan kita, thickness of our cornea, any eyes complications that may present, size of pupil, eyes' pressure, eyes' moistness, etc
Before screening process:

• For soft contact lenses wearer, must stop wearing it for at least 4 days prior the screening procedure.
• Whereas for hard contact lenses: 2 weeks.

This is because the contact lenses may alter the normal shape of our cornea.
During the screening process, please bring along your eyeglasses together.
As for my case, the optometrist told me that I have big eyes (so, less stretching needed to open up the eyes during the surgery which means less pain), I also have large pupil size which is slightly disadvantage as my eyes can't see clearly during nighttime and I might see halos upon looking the lights (senang cerita cahaya mudah terbias) and my cornea is not really thick unlike my sister who has thicker cornea. So, I am not suitable for the direct procedure and need to be on special procedure.
The screening cost was RM200.
After the screening process, boleh lah book tarikh untuk undergo the LASIK surgery :)

2. LASIK Surgery: Before
As for me, I decided to do the LASIK surgery a week after the screening process.
Before coming for the surgery, please ensure that:

1. You are not wearing eye make up
2. Not use any perfume
3. Not wearing contact lenses for at least 4 days before the surgery.
4. Bring along a person to drive you home.

Instructions before LASIK surgery

Read carefully the letter of consent before sign it. Need not to worry. All the potential risks are greatly improved by the current technology :)

3. LASIK Surgery: During

My experience during LASIK surgery was like this:

1. Saya disiapkan dengan baju hijau & penutup rambut @ surgery attire ala2 scrubs tu.
2. My eyelashes & eyes area were cleaned by using dark-chocolate coloured solution (which I think was iodine solution).
3. The nurse brought me to the surgery room where all the machines located and I was asked to lie down on the machine with my head on the socket of the machine heading to the laser shoot.
4. The doctor put some numbing eye drops in my eyes as to alleviate any discomfort that may arise during the procedure.
5. My eyes were stretched as to open them up.
6. The surgeon marked the cornea before creating the flap.
7. A suction ring was applied to my eyes as to make the eyes static (since the eyes movement may affect the flap quality). During this process, you might feel a slight pressure on your eyes and your eyes might be blurred for a few moment (due to the pressure applied). Stay calm and need not to worry :)
8. I was asked to look and focus at the target light (red light) for a short time and the laser was shot creating a flap of my cornea. It was painless although you might feel some pressure on your eyes and you will smell something is burning. But need not to worry :)
9. The LASIK was performed on each eye separately with each procedure took only 5-10 minutes.
10. Lastly, the nurse took me to a room and I was advised to rest. An hour later, the surgeon  did a check up on my eyes.

Surgical garment. Tudung perlu dibuka. So saya nasihatkan kalian pakai tudung sarung and elakkan pakai tudung berpin sana- sini.

Lebih kurang macam ni procedure dia. Stay calm just focus at the light.

4. LASIK Surgery: After

My experience was:

1. There was temporary burning sensation & excessive tearing right after the LASIK procedure (particularly when the effect of numbing eye drops stop). So, terpaksa la saya pakai shades disebabkan mata yang merah+ berair+ and susah nak buka. But, need not to worry. The effect will subside soon particularly after you wake up from your sleep :)
2. My vision was hazy and blurry right after the procedure. Tp ia akan improve by time. Macam saya, keesokan harinya :)

5. LASIK Surgery: Post-care

Post- care

Subconjunctival hemorrhage

Antibiotic to ensure there is  no infection of the eyes.

Artificial tears to deal with the dryness & discomfort of the eyes.

Eye shield. You need to wear this during sleep as to prevent to  rub your eyes during sleep or terhempap  apa2 tengah kroih2 kan :p

My 4am face with the eye shield on. Macam satria baja hitam :p

And you may also require these things on your very 1st week after the LASIK surgery (critical time)

Goggles. Esp waktu mandi. Avoid mata from kena air as the water contains so many bacteria and the infection of your eyes might lead to blindness.

Shades sbb akan ada sedikit silau bila tengok cahaya.

Pesan saya:

Waktu mandi, untuk cuci muka, gunakan span basah & lap ke muka. Similarly for wudhu'. Pat lembut2 kat area around mata. Lap air dekat mata lembut2 then baru buka mata.

6. Follow up

Alhamdulillah. A day after the LASIK procedure, I went for the follow up. And I was told that my vision is 20/20. Perfect eyesight. Although I might have some astigmatism due to the flap hasn't seal yet but it might improve with time. ALHAMDULILLAH :)

And saya juga diberitahu untuk blink fully as my eyes are big and need extra effort to do so. This is because the lower part of my eyes were dried due to "half-blinking" (the eyes were not well lubricated).

Before start the procedure, dia baca: Bismillah

During the procedure (esp during the suction thing which might cause slight pain) he told me to selawat with his soft and tenang voice (indirectly menenangkan saya)

And when he done with the procedure, he said: Alhamdulillah :)

And he told my mom that I was calm during the procedure padahal gelabah dalam hati :)
